About My Work
My work is based on the natural world, particularly landscapes. It is topographical but not an exact representation of the landscape.
I am interested in using marks that convey the physical sensations and textures of the subject. The image is shaped by what I see and what I wish to represent.
Each step in the printmaking process has a certain excitement for me. I handprint the plates or blocks and in doing so try to make each print exactly the same yet, a comparison will often reveal unique qualities in each that can make them a unique work of art.
As my main interest as an artist is drawing, I prefer etching as a choice of medium. Creating an etched image is totally suited to all aspects of drawing either linear, with or without hatching or by using brush with sugar lift.
I prefer my etchings to be black and white or at least monotone but I do explore colour in them from time to time.
Lino printing comes a close second. My lino prints are linear based to start with but they allow me the opportunity to explore colour more so than in the etchings. I am very influenced by Japanese woodblock printing in this respect.
Please contact me to discuss any opportunities to exhibit my work in your gallery, print competitions and/or group exhibitions.
