Metal to Memory

These pics follow the process of creating an etching of an image based on a photo I took while holidaying in Japan in 2018. It in effect is a memory of Magome a small traditional village in the South West of Japan. It is built on a hillside which meant a steep climb from the bus up the mainstreet (the only street really) to our accommodation. We spent three days there and it was one of the highlights of our trip.

The resulting print is not one of my best unfortunately. The aquatint came out a bit darker than I would have liked and somewhere along the way the plate picked up a scratch which is rather annoying. Ah well there's always another day and another copper plate waiting.
